The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne represents the reason why if you make a mistake, you should own up to it, instead of letting others take the blame. It also teaches readers that seeking revenge will never make the situation better, but will make it worse. Many of the issues in The Scarlet Letter could have been solved by forgiviness. If Dimmesdale would have confessed and asked for forgiveness when Hester was on the scaffold, he would not have to live with guilt, and Chillingworth would not have been able to torture him. Chillingworth was unable to forgive Dimmesdale, and he was represented as the Devil by Hawthorne. The Scarlet Letter was interesting and had many plot twists. The moral of the story is to always seek forgiveness instead of seek revenge.
